Hi Y'all! My name is Tammy Eakes. My husband, David, and I grew up in Water Valley, MS just 20 minutes from Oxford. We both graduated from Ole Miss. We have 2 daughters. August, our older daughter is currently in her 2nd year at Ole miss. Lucy, our younger daughter is in her junior year of high school. When August decided to attend Ole Miss, we were thrilled to have an “excuse” to spend more time in Oxford!
David and I dreamed of purchasing a home in Oxford for over 30 years; however, we didn’t want just any “house”. We wanted a “home”. We wanted a home with character, a home with history, a home that wraps its arms around you when you walk through the front door. In November of 2022 we finally found and purchased the home we had been dreaming of. We purchased 604 S 8th St and named it “The Eakes House on South 8th”. The most interesting part of this story is that 25 years prior to purchasing The Eakes House on South 8th (almost to the day), Mrs. Dixie Purdon hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner at the home immediately next door! David and I were 2 young, dumb, and broke kids with big dreams; one of which was to someday own a beautiful historical home in Oxford just like the ones we were surrounded by that night. It feels like fate that 25 years after standing stary eyed full of dreams right there on S 8th Street we were able to purchase 604 S 8th St. We feel blessed and honored to own this beautiful historic home and can't wait to share it with you.
The Eakes House on S 8th is an Oxford treasure not only because of location but also for its unique architectural style. It boasts a Cape Cod style with Colonial Revival influence and is unlike most traditional historic homes in the area. The home was built in the 1930’s. In 2022 the home was completely remodeled. The exterior architectural design remains while the interior has been updated to accommodate our modern lifestyles.
